The CareTaker
In the afternoon, a chubby, middle-aged, brown-skinned lesbian woman with short hair arrived in the house next door to the schoolhouse. She stood in the doorway with one dark purple and yellow floral print suitcase in each hand. The house had a kitchen, a bedroom with short, white curtains on the window, and a large main room with a Persian carpet on the floor the color of burgandy wine. The woman's name was Juanita and she had submitted her qualifications to live in the Pueblo as a part-time educator for the children and as an animal tracker. Juanita specialized in tracking small animals such as peccaries, coyotes and bobcats.
At almost exactly the same time that Juanita arrived in The Pueblo, Zoe was in town at the post office opening a letter from Hazel that had arrived a couple of days ago.
Dear Zoe,
Greetings. I hope you are well. I am writing to inform you
that in the event you need to exterminate the CareTaker, you may put some
in his Tea. Chamomile is suggested.
Regards,
Hazel
Zoe sent a messenger to the Pueblo from the post office with her message about the Tea and everyone that night at dinner drank tea.
